About
An AU/NZ deals board that filters out the fishy ones
Last updated 26 September 2026
Tasman Bargain Board is a deals site for shoppers in Australia and New Zealand. It collects discounts from across a range of retailers, works out which of them are real, and puts them in one searchable place.
Why this exists
Most deal sites repeat whatever the merchant says. A retailer lists a recommended price of $299 on something that has not actually sold above $120 in a year, the site prints "60% off", and the shopper is no better informed than before.
This board is built around not doing that. Every product listing comes straight from a live eBay Australia listing, and every flight fare from live Travelpayouts fare data, both refreshed automatically twice a day. Nothing is typed in by hand, and listings that look too good to be true are left off rather than promoted.
How a deal gets on the board
- Live prices only. Product deals come from the eBay Australia Browse API. Flight fares come from Travelpayouts. Both are refreshed twice a day, and each card links to the live listing or the exact route and dates.
- The fishy ones are filtered out. Claimed discounts above 70% (almost always an inflated "was" price), damaged-box, open-box, refurbished and pre-order listings, and sellers below 98% positive feedback or with fewer than 100 ratings are left off the board.
- The "was" price is the seller's, not ours. The discount shown is the seller's own reference price as reported by eBay (for flights, the typical fare on that route). We have not yet checked it against an independent price history. Our own price tracker is being built, and nothing will be labelled "verified" until it has enough history to back that up.
- Ranking is independent of commission. What rises to the top is driven by the size of the discount and variety across sellers. It is not driven by which retailer pays more.
- Community submissions are labelled. Deals posted by readers are marked as such and can be voted on. They do not go through the automatic filters, because there is no feed behind them.
Where the board is right now
Today the board covers eBay Australia (including items that ship to New Zealand, priced in AUD) and flight fares. Other Australian and New Zealand retailers will be added as their affiliate programs approve us; until then we don't list them rather than copy their prices by hand.
What the board covers
Groceries and household essentials, clothing and footwear, electronics and computing, home and kitchen, health and beauty, baby and kids, and tools and outdoor. For shoppers in both Australia and New Zealand: product prices are shown in AUD (the NZ listings are eBay Australia items that ship to New Zealand), with a region switch at the top of every page.
Who runs it
This site is run by Tasman Bargain Board, an independent operator based in Auckland, New Zealand. It is not owned by, or operated on behalf of, any retailer or retail group.
Questions, corrections and merchant enquiries all go to [email protected], or use the contact page.
How the site makes money
Through affiliate commission on some outbound links, and nothing else. There is no paid placement, no sponsored ranking, and no charge to readers. The affiliate disclosure sets out exactly how that works and what it does and does not influence.
Who runs this
Tasman Bargain Board is an independent, one-person project run by Ali, who works as a senior security analyst in his day job. That background is why the site is built to be sceptical: every price is pulled automatically from a live source, nothing is typed in by hand, and anything that looks too good to be true is left out. It is not owned by a retailer, airline or travel agent.
The site earns a small commission from eBay when someone buys through a deal link, and from Airalo when someone buys the travel eSIM we suggest for international trips. Flight links go to Skyscanner and Google Flights, in your own currency, and earn nothing; an optional “Also compare on Aviasales” link, marked #ad, earns a commission. That never changes the price you pay. Questions or corrections go straight to Ali at [email protected].
Getting something wrong
Prices move, feeds go stale, and a listing that was right this morning can be wrong by tonight. If you find a price on the board that does not match the retailer's own page, tell us and it gets corrected or pulled. That is the fastest way to make this thing more useful, and it is genuinely welcome.
