How this site makes money

Some links on this site earn us a commission. Here is exactly how that works, what it costs you, and what it does not buy.
The short version
When you click a deal and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small referral fee. It never changes the price you pay. It does not decide which deals appear, or in what order. Not every link earns anything, and we have no way of knowing what you bought.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a retailer with a tracking code attached. If you click it and then buy something, the retailer's affiliate network records that the visit came from this site and pays a percentage of the sale as a referral fee. The fee comes out of the retailer's margin. It is not added to your price, and the price is the same as it would be if you had typed the retailer's address in yourself.
Who we work with
Referral relationships are held through affiliate networks rather than directly with most retailers. The networks in use, or applied for, are Commission Factory, Amazon Associates (Australia) and Impact. Individual retailer programs are joined through those networks.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
What commission does not buy
- Placement. Ranking is calculated from the verified discount and how unusual the price is against that item's own history. The calculation does not know or care what a retailer pays.
- Inclusion. Retailers cannot pay to be listed, and no retailer has approval over what is said about their prices.
- A softer line on inflated pricing. A listing whose claimed discount is not supported by its price history gets flagged and pushed down, commission or no commission.
- Reviews. The board does not publish paid reviews or sponsored posts.
Which links earn
Not all of them. Where a retailer has no affiliate program, or we are not approved for it, the link is a plain link and earns nothing. Both kinds sit side by side on the board and neither is treated differently. Community-submitted deals link wherever the person who posted them pointed, and are labelled as community posts.
Cookies from affiliate networks
Clicking through to a retailer usually sets a cookie in your browser from that retailer's affiliate network so a later purchase can be attributed. Those cookies are set by the network and the retailer, not by this site, and are covered by their privacy policies. Blocking third-party cookies will stop that attribution working and will not affect anything you can do on this site. Our own privacy policy covers what happens on our side.
Prices
Every price on the board is a record of what was observed at a point in time, not an offer. Retailers change prices, run out of stock, and end sales without notice. Check the current price on the retailer's own page before you buy. If a price here is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed.
Why this page exists
Because being paid to send you somewhere is something you are entitled to know about before you click, not after. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the New Zealand Commerce Commission both expect commercial relationships behind a recommendation to be disclosed clearly. This page, the line in the footer of every page, and the line in the footer of every alert email are that disclosure.
